CHOIR INTROIT
Call to Worship: Isaiah 43:16-21
Thus says the Lord, who makes a way in the sea, a path in the mighty waters,
who brings out chariot and horse, army and warrior; they lie down, they cannot rise, they are extinguished, quenched like a wick:
Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old. I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. The wild animals will honor me, the jackals and the ostriches
for
I give water in the wilderness, rivers in the desert, to give drink to my
chosen people,
the people whom I formed for myself so
that they might declare my praise.
*PRAYER OF THE DAY
* Hymn of Praise (Opening): “God of the Ages, Whose Almighty Hand” Glory #331
CALL TO CONFESSION
Prayer of Confession
Purifying God, we grow comfortable
with the way things are in our lives, in the church,
and in the world. We do not always
welcome the new life you offer in Christ, for you
overturn our notions of power and
protocol. Convinced of our own righteousness, we are critical of others.
Wanting to control our assets, we hoard the gifts you give us. Forgive us, we
pray, for seeking our gain at the expense of others. Bend our lives toward your
own life
of self-giving love and sacrifice. Fill us, our homes and churches, the
whole world, with the
abundant love of Christ until all are made new. We pray in the name of
Jesus, Amen.
Assurance of Pardon
No matter
how hard we try, we cannot make
ourselves right with God.
Our righteousness comes from
faith in Christ, who has made us God’s own.
Hear again the very, very good
news! In Jesus Christ we are forgiven!
The old life has passed away—and a
new life has begun. Thanks be to God for so great a gift!
passing the peace
GLORY BE TO THE FATHER
Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
